Flutist Jan Boland and guitarist John Dowdall began creating and presenting programs as Red Cedar Chamber Music in July 1997 and continued to do so through June 2016. In July 2016 Jan & John left Red Cedar Chamber Music and passed their positions as the core musical ensemble and the Executive and Artistic Directors to violinist Miera Kim and cellist Carey Bostian.
From 1997-2010 Boland & Dowdall’s repertory focused on both 19th-century and newly commissioned music for flute, guitar and viola performed by the Red Cedar Trio consisting of Jan Boland, John Dowdall and violist David Miller. In 2011 the focus shifted to newly commissioned music for flute, guitar and cello with cellist Carey Bostian becoming the new member of the trio.
